Tracking people using mobile phones sounds very Hollywood blockbuster and nowadays is commonly used in storylines but how easy is it to track a person's mobile phone? The answer is, very simple. Most modern mobile phones include a GPS tracker as part of their features but even without the car dvd player provision you can still locate any mobile phone using only its number.
The tracking provider or tracking software sends out a signal to the mobile phone and monitors where the response comes from. The time it takes the signal to reach the phone from the nearest phone mast gives the distance and then by taking three measurements from separate masts together it gives the location.
There is no need to disturb the person while they are driving or in a meeting as it sends a silent signal to check the location. However, the phone does need to be switched on for it to work.
Business users have been quick to recognise the advantages of such a device and while it has long been used in the form of vehicle tracking systems, personal tracking systems give more flexibility. It makes the logistics of coordinating teams or rescue services a lot simpler.
The use of GPS tracking will mean that the FAW can accurately build up a picture of the areas that are constantly being blighted with unsightly, discarded rubbish. The Welsh Assembly are planning on spending £25 million on revamping the area and attracting inward investment and FAW Project Manager Gary Evans believes that monitoring fly-tipping using car dvd tracking is a good way of eradicating the unsightly rubbish from the valleys, villages and beautiful countryside of Wales.
The officers from the unit will be armed with their car gps navigation mobile phones and will help in compiling data for the Valleys Regional Park team to analyse. The Environment Minister, John Griffiths said on the BBC that whilst instances of fly-tipping had declined there were still too many cases which were costing tax payers over £3m each year.
